THE CHAPEL OF THE BORJA CENTRE

The Chapel of the Borja Palace in Gandia

About the Church:

Our resident stipendiary Chaplains are Fr Paul Rolfe & Fr Peter Edwards, together with several Honorary Assistant Priests. In addition to the clergy team, we have an active lay ministry, a Gandia church committee, and representation on the governing body of the Chaplaincy Council.

Like most churches, we try to reach out to the local and wider community. In our case, we give particular support to the Franciscan Hospice at Palma de Gandia. This is a unique local charity run by two Franciscan Brothers who rely on the generosity of others to care for homeless and chronically ill men. We collect men’s clothing, towels, bedding and blankets, toiletries and long-life food, and deliver them to the Hospice on a regular basis. We also collect saleable goods, such as bric a brac and household items. These are sold through the Original Charity Shop at Javea Park for the benefit of the Hospice.

We also collect Ladies and Children’s clothing for CáritasInterparochial. This is a charity attached to the local Roman Catholic Churches which helps poor and homeless families in Gandia.

Our team of Hospital Visitors visits English-speaking patients in the large State hospital here in Gandia. We also have a Prayer Ministry Group, who meet on a regular basis.

We are a Christian Stewardship Chaplaincy and rely on regular giving to maintain our clergy, our worship and our ministry. You can give on the collection plate, by a one-off donation or through regular standing order from a UK or Spanish bank. If you are a UK taxpayer, the Chaplaincy can recover the UK income tax paid on your donation through the Gift Aid Scheme. Please see our Christian Stewardship Officer or any of the Committee members for details.

We welcome Christians of every denomination. Even if you are not confirmed in the Church of England you may receive Holy Communion if you are a communicant within your own church. If you would like to know more about the church or any of our activities, just speak to any of the Committee members who are recognisable by their badges, or ring one of the contact numbers below.

Services:

The Eucharist is celebrated every Sunday at 12 noon in the chapel of the Borja Palace.

Directions:

The Borja Centre is situated in the centre of Gandia on the banks of the River Serpis.

If walking down the paseo (Passeig de les Germanies) towards the Serpis underground car park:

  • Turn up the last street on the left (Duc Alfons el Vell) which leads towards the Town Hall (Ajuntament).
  • The entrance to the chapel is on the right hand side, before the main visitors’ entrance to the Borja Centre.

Normally a member of our congregation will be outside the door to welcome you.

By Car From the South:

  • From the south and the motorway (J.61) take the N332 north towards Gandia.
  • At the roundabout 1 km from the city centre leave the N332 and go straight on towards the city centre, signposted for Gandia.
  • Turn left at the next roundabout, signposted for Almoines and Villalonga.
  • Take the second right at the next roundabout and cross the River Serpis.
  • Turn right at the next roundabout, back down towards the Serpis Car Park.
  • The rear entrance to the car park should now be facing you.
  • Take your ticket and enter the car park, drive towards the far end and park as near to the pedestrian exit as possible. You do not need to pay until you are ready to return to your vehicle.
  • As you walk out of the car park into the square, with the River Serpis behind you, take the first street on the right, on the corner of the old yellow building.
  • Walk down this street (Duc Alfons el Vell) which leads towards the Town Hall (Ajuntament).
  • The entrance to the chapel is on the right hand side, before the main visitors’ entrance to the Borja Centre.

Normally a member of our congregation will be outside the door to welcome you.
